Block Facebook on Android completely—or put prayer before the feed

Keep Facebook installed while changing what happens when you tap it. Prayer Guard can give the Facebook Android app a Scripture-and-prayer pause, require prayer before access, or keep the app closed completely.

How it works

How to block the Facebook app on Android without deleting it

1. Install Prayer Guard

Get Prayer Guard from Google Play. You do not need to create a Prayer Guard account.

2. Enable the guard permission

During setup, Prayer Guard explains the Android permission it needs to recognize when a selected guarded app comes to the foreground.

3. Select Facebook

Choose the installed Facebook app. If Messenger is also a distraction, guard Messenger separately because it is a separate app.

4. Choose the boundary

Select Block completely for no access through the installed Facebook app, or use one of the prayer-first modes when you still want intentional access.

Three guard modes

The feed does not need the same rule every day

Pause + pray

A Bible verse, breathing pause, and prayer interrupt the reflex. After the pause, you decide whether opening Facebook still serves a real purpose.

Good for: people who still use Groups, events, or Marketplace but want friction before casual checking.

Pray to open

The prayer step is required before the selected Facebook app can open.

Good for: when a skippable pause is too easy to dismiss but you still need occasional access.

Block completely

The installed Facebook app stays closed while this mode is active. It does not unlock after the prayer.

Good for: a social media fast, bedtime, study time, a workday, Sabbath, or any period when you do not want access.

Know what is being blocked

Prayer Guard guards the Facebook app—not every possible route to Facebook

When Facebook is selected, the chosen rule applies to the installed Facebook Android app before you reach the feed, Reels, Groups, or Marketplace inside it. Prayer Guard does not separately filter those sections.

It also does not automatically block facebook.com inside Chrome or another browser. If browser access is part of your pattern, account for that separately instead of assuming an app-level boundary covers the whole web.

Accountability

Make an impulsive reversal harder

Commitment Lock can let someone you trust hold the PIN required to weaken protected Prayer Guard settings. You can strengthen a guard without asking permission; protected weakening changes require the PIN or the documented cooldown.

Prayer Guard does not claim that a normal owner-controlled Android phone becomes impossible to bypass. Android still gives the device owner system-level control.

A different use of the interruption

From automatic checking to an intentional choice

Facebook can be useful and still be easy to open without deciding to. The point of the prayer-first modes is not to declare the whole platform bad; it is to interrupt the habit before the feed decides how the next twenty minutes will be spent.

FAQ

Facebook blocking questions

How do I block Facebook on Android without deleting it?

Install Prayer Guard, enable the required Android guard permission, select Facebook, and choose Block completely. Facebook remains installed while Prayer Guard keeps the selected app closed during that mode.

Can I make myself pray before Facebook opens?

Yes. Use Pray to open if prayer should be required before access. Use Pause + pray if you want Scripture and prayer to interrupt the reflex but still want the final choice afterward.

Does this include Facebook Reels and Marketplace?

The rule applies to the installed Facebook app as a whole, so it acts before you reach Reels, the feed, Groups, or Marketplace. It does not separately filter individual sections and it does not automatically block Facebook in a browser.

Can I block Facebook for my child?

Prayer Guard can protect in-app settings with Family Guard/accountability features, but Android device owners retain system-level controls. For a child-owned device, pair Prayer Guard with appropriate supervised-device controls such as Google Family Link when needed.

Make Facebook intentional—or keep it closed

Choose Pause + pray, Pray to open, or Block completely for the Facebook Android app.
