Prayer Guard vs Psalmo: a daily Bible verse gate or different rules for each app?
Both apps put Scripture between you and a distracting app. The useful question is how often you want that interruption and what should happen after it. Psalmo offers a daily reading gate; Prayer Guard gives Android users three per-app guard modes.

The practical difference
According to Psalmo's official site, reading the day's verse opens the selected apps for the rest of that day. Psalmo supports iOS and Android and has a free tier covering app pausing, daily verses, home-screen widgets and three themes. Premium adds more customization and devotional features. These are published product details, not results of a hands-on test.
| Your priority | Psalmo | Prayer Guard |
|---|---|---|
| Phone platform | iOS and Android | Android |
| Opening an app | Read today's verse, then unlock for the day | Pause + pray, Pray to open, or Block completely |
| Home-screen Scripture | Bible verse widgets | Bible verse widget and prayer streak |
| Ongoing access | Free core tier; premium extras | Paid plans after a 7-day trial |
When Psalmo makes sense
If your aim is to read Scripture before the first social-media session of the day, its daily gate is a direct match. It also gives an iPhone household a supported option today. Prayer Guard does not currently have an iPhone release. Check Psalmo's official Android listing for compatibility and current premium terms.
What Prayer Guard does on Android
Choose a boundary for each app in Prayer Guard's three guard modes. Pause + pray adds Scripture, breathing and a prayer pause while leaving a choice to continue. Pray to open requires the prayer step. Block completely keeps the selected app closed while its guard is active. You can use a lighter setting for an app you need regularly and a full block for one you want to leave alone.
Commitment Lock protects settings from being weakened without the holder's PIN. It is a commitment aid, not an unbreakable device lock: the Android device owner can still uninstall or force-stop the app. Keep essential communication and emergency tools accessible when choosing what to guard.
Prayer Guard also includes a home-screen Bible verse widget, a prayer journal and prayer streaks. Personal prayer content is local by default, with optional encrypted backup you control. No Prayer Guard account is required.
Trial, price and the decision to keep it
Prayer Guard offers a 7-day free trial, then plans from $24.99/year or $6.99/month in USD. Confirm eligibility, regional prices and renewal terms in Google Play before starting. See Prayer Guard pricing for the current published plans. Compare the same billing period when evaluating another app; a free download does not necessarily mean free ongoing access.
Choose around your actual scrolling pattern
For a morning reading habit, compare a daily gate with your current routine. If the problem is returning to the same feed throughout the day, try Prayer Guard's prayer-required mode on that specific app. If you want no access during a guarded period, use Block completely. Start with one distraction and evaluate whether the boundary helps you choose deliberately; adding every app at once can make the routine harder to keep.
